My life as a veterinarian has been pretty amazing so far, and being able to join my colleagues in Pensacola FL has broadened my horizon even further. I came into being a veterinarian in a somewhat circuitous fashion. I never expected to actually work with animals. Growing up, my family did not own any pets, and because we lived in a city, it’s not like I had a whole lot of wildlife to observe either.
I suppose when I think about it in the terms of lacking, perhaps not having animals in my life sparked some sort of curiosity which eventually grew into veterinary science. But before my journey with animals started, I actually began with people!
In fact, my major in college was human health and medicine, with the intention of going on to become a doctor or surgeon. I really did enjoy the work, and enjoyed my colleagues as well, but there was one day in which I audited and animal health course and was immediately smitten by the course material.
All of this to say, my path diverged that day and I went on to switch my focus from people to animals. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
Since then I have been fortunate enough to have joined more than a few of the research programs here for animal health. These programs have taken me to places like Pensacola FL where I have been able to conduct more research and lead even more people and animals.
